On 25 February 2026, at 5:30 p.m., the Official Presentation Ceremony of the work on the “Theory of Just War”, authored by our President, will take place at the Instituto Universitário Militar, located at Rua de Pedrouços, no. 122, 1449-027 Lisbon.
JOSÉ MIGUEL DE CARVALHO-CERQUEIRA is an academic researcher at CEI-ISCTE (Centre for International Studies) and at CIDIUM (Research Centre of the Military University Institute). He collaborates with several universities and academic research centres, both in Portugal and abroad.
His main areas of interest include the “Cold War in Africa”, War Studies and Military Sciences within the fields of International Relations, Political and Social Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, and Religion.
He has an extensive academic and professional curriculum, having completed his tactical studies in military aviation and operation studies both in Portugal and Sweden, as well as in several NATO centres of education and excellence.
Strategy, particularly in its military and operational dimension in theatres of war, is currently his primary field of research.
He studied Theology, holds a degree in Philosophy from the Catholic University of Lisbon, a Master’s degree in Contemporary History with a specialization in International Relations from ISCTE/IUL, and completed the doctoral program of PhD in History, Security and Defence Studies at the Military Academy / ISCTE-IUL / Swedish Defence University in Stockholm (European Doctorate).
