Invited by the Ministry of Culture and the National Archive of Angola, the President, Dr. José Miguel de Carvalho Cerqueira, carried out a courtesy visit to the new facilities of the National Archive of Angola on 12 November 2025, with the aim of strengthening cultural, institutional, and academic ties between Portugal and Angola.
Dr. José Miguel de Carvalho Cerqueira was received by the Director-General, Doctor Justino da Glória Ramos, together with Retired General Francisco Lopes Gonçalves Afonso “Hanga”. The delegation toured the various departments of the institution, including the Preservation and Restoration sectors, Document Depositories, Visual Archive, and Historical Library.
During the visit, the President of the Foundation acknowledged the importance of the work carried out by the National Archive in safeguarding collective memory and preserving Angola’s documentary heritage.
The visit concluded with a family photo, symbolising cooperation, institutional friendship, and the shared commitment to Angola’s history and identity.
Dr. José Miguel de Carvalho Cerqueira was in Angola for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Independence, further reinforcing the involvement of the Casa Carvalho Cerqueira Foundation in the country’s cultural history.
